Our family is one of the largest mohair producers in the United States. Our herds of Angora goats freely roam a fourteen thousand acre ranch in Rocksprings, TX, the mohair capital of the world. In addition to ranching, we own & operate Sonora Wool & Mohair in Sonora, TX. This beautiful woolhouse stores, sorts, packs and ships wool & mohair to South Africa where it is cleaned and eventually finds its way to places like England and Italy where it is used to make gorgeous textiles, high quality carpets, upholstery and clothing.
I'll be honest, it's a dying industry but I firmly believe it does not have to be! It needs a revitalization. The benefits of wool & mohair need to be modernly reintroduced and used in ways never thought of before. This is why I was so excited to come across allbird's Facebook ad. I am thrilled to see what this company is doing with wool and it is exactly the vision and direction I want to help contribute to.
My daughter is almost seven years old and is the sixth generation to carry the title of Rancher. I want to use the ideas we imagine help to create new opportunities for her on the ranch and show her that her that we have the ability, creativity, and fortitude to incorporate new life into something that is absolutely worth continuing.
My name is Shalayne Mayfield. I am a ranch lifestyle photographer, rancher and what I like to consider, an idea generator from Sonora, TX and I'm here to create my Dream Job. My Dream Job is to creatively collaborate with allbirds through a variety of platforms. Though my passion is photographing with the mission of preserving the ranching way of life, I desire tremendously to elevate the wool & mohair industry by discovering new ways to incorporate and increase wool & mohair use into daily lives while also introducing the benefits, beauty & sustainability to a newer generation of conscious customers.
Earlier this year, I managed to be quoted in the New York Times. The crazy thing about it is this transpired from the comfort of my couch and an iPhone. I am continually amazed how positively being connected affects our lives.
I have a tremendous desire to remotely offer my photography, writing skills, content, and ideas with allbirds. The fact that wool is paramount to the company excites me even more because our family business revolves around it's production. I personally would love to help source and promote mohair as another go to textile for conscious buyers.
I understand allbirds is committed to "seeking new ways to use the world’s smartest natural materials." I get this and I can help by product development and showcasing. I am at the front lines of the foundation of your products and believe what you are doing is honorable.
And I'd like to be a part of that.
